You don't want to be the bad guy on the ground when this Fairchild Republic
Thunderbolt II A-10 "Warthog" is patrolling overhead. If you
are the bad guy, though, don't bother shooting up at it with anything less than
a surface-to-air missile because its belly is made of thick titanium.
The front mounted gun is a General Electric GAU-8/A Avenger 30 mm seven-barrel "Gatling gun" cannon which fires depleted uranium bullets at up to 4200 rounds per minute. If that doesn't kill you then the pilot might try an AGM-65A Maverick missile or a Mk 84 laser-guided bomb. The A-10 "Warthog" is planned to be in active service through 2030.
