A European JAA STC has been issued for C-172 retrofits and 10 such airplanes have been re-engined to date. An FAA STC for C-172 retrofits is pending. TAE is currently working on a European STC for Piper PA-28 retrofits.

During development, the Centurion 1.7 engine was referred to as the TAE 125. The engine still retains that model designation in the type certificate but "Centurion 1.7" was deemed a better marketing name. The "1.7" bit comes from the engine's displacement of 1.7 liters (104 ci). North American sales and service for the Centurion 1.7 engine will be handled by Superior Air Parts. TAE plans to make the Centurion 1.7 available to the homebuilt market through kit plane manufacturers who choose to fit the engine to their kit planes. In that regard, TAE is currently working with several unspecified kit plane manufacturers. A 310 hp Centurion 4.0 engine is under development. TAE (Thielert Aircraft Engines) is based in Germany and is part of the Thielert Group.
